Collection: Marcy Parks

A self-taught (informally educated) artist and writer based in Northeast Tennessee, she creates bold, feminine abstract paintings that explore themes of healing and transformation.

Her work reflects her lived experiences as a woman and mother, serving as a means of examining and untangling the inherited narratives surrounding womanhood, femininity, and motherhood. The physicality of her process—marked by gestural movements and the use of her bare hands to create texture and form—functions as a somatic practice, channeling stored emotional energy into the canvas. This embodied approach gives her work its distinctive intensity and vitality.

Through the act of creation, complex internal narratives begin to unravel, revealing the underlying forces that have shaped her consciously and unconsciously. The resulting abstract forms, lines, and layered marks trace a visual record of healing, mapping a journey from entanglement toward clarity and renewal.
