Collection: Laura Davis Shainker

Her contemporary landscapes explore the abstract qualities inherent in patterns, shapes, and the expansive nature of open spaces. Drawing from photographs, field observations, and memory, she creates compositions that emphasize balance and serenity through simplified forms and harmonious color palettes. Marshes, mountains, farmlands, waterways, florals, and architectural elements—particularly in relationship to their surrounding environments—serve as recurring subjects in her work. Her paintings are inspired by places of personal significance, including the American South, the Lowcountry, and the French countryside.

Having spent much of her life in Atlanta, she has also lived in Los Angeles and England. She attended the University of Georgia and initially pursued a career in business before formally deepening her commitment to the visual arts. While raising three children, she studied the classical principles of drawing and painting under the guidance of several established artists. Her professional path has included teaching and owning the Art School of Sandy Springs, where she hosted workshops featuring nationally recognized artists. In 2019, she transitioned to painting full time, dedicating herself fully to her studio practice.
